Papercraft Friday #90: Voltron

June 11, 2010

Form feet and legs! Form arms and body! And I’ll form the head!

This week’s model has been around for about 2 years, but is too good to ignore.  Each lion can stand alone or you can assemble the whole thing to form Voltron.  Awesome job by voltron5 and Getter1 over on zealot.com for this one.  The photos above and after the jump are from Getter1′s build.  Really excited to give this one a go.

Activate interlocks! Dyna-therms connected. Infra-cells up.  Mega-thrusters are go!   Let’s go, Voltron Force!

Papercraft Friday #89: iDonkey Phone Kit

June 4, 2010

Wish the iCade Arcade Cabinet that ThinkGeek pranked was a little more substantial?  Make a mini version of your own with this Donkey Kong  iPhone / iPod Touch kit, featured this week at Papercraft Paradise.  It may not play games like the fake one did, but you can make it a nice dock for your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Papercraft Friday #88: Pirate Ship

May 28, 2010

Brazilian site RecorteCole has some fun little paper models, including the one pictured to the right, which is a Portuguese style ship called a caravela, similar to the one Pedro Álvares Cabral sailed on in 1500 from Portugal to India, in the process discovering Brazil.  More importantly, though, the site includes a modified model with regular sails and a Jolly Roger skull and crossbones flag to make your own pirate ship!  Try your hand at making either, or make both and stage a mini pirate attack at sea.

Papercraft Friday #87: Yoda

May 21, 2010

Small, today’s papercraft is.  Like building Yoda, I think you will. Perhaps fitting, it is, since Talk Like Yoda Day today is.  Herh herh herh.

This one not keen on, hmm?  Want more, hmm?  Check out other Papercraft Friday posts.

Papercraft Friday #86: Sea Lion

May 14, 2010

I may have finally uncovered a paper model that my lovely wife might build!  Who can resist making this cute Sea Lion, complete with platform, hula hoops, ball and bucket of fish?  Isn’t he adorable??  Download him from Canon Creative Park in letter or A4 format.

Papercraft Friday #85: Ironman 2

May 7, 2010

It’s Ironman 2 weekend, so what better way to start it off than with some Ironman 2 papercraft.  Raphael Gatt has made several different paper models of Ironman and War Machine and Iron Monger on his website, including the Ironman 2 Mark VI shown here.  Not only fun to make, but cheaper than a movie and popcorn!

Papercraft Friday #84: Pinhole Camera

April 30, 2010

This week’s paper model comes from Ravensblight.com, and is great for a science project, or when you just feel like making more than a static model.  The concept of a pinhole camera was pretty common when I was a kid, but in the digital age some kids don’t even know what film is!  Now with some paper and a few odds and ends, plus a roll of 35mm film, they can make their own working camera.  No batteries required!  As Ravensblight points out, pinhole cameras take soft focus pictures, which are good for spooky or dreamlike settings.  Check their site for the model, instructions and sample pictures.

Make one now while you can still buy 35mm film!  Send me some shots from it if you do!

Papercraft Friday #83: Relief Earth Globe

April 23, 2010

In honor of Earth Day, this week’s model is the Relief Earth Globe from paperpino.net.  Relief Earth Globes show the Earth’s surface and undersea topography.  This one uses 2006 images from the National Geophysical Data Center – NOAA Satellite and Information Service.  The 19-page model and instructions are pretty detailed.  The box in the picture can also be built, and has an internal starfield that you would place the globe into.

Thanks to Giuseppe (Pino) Civitarese for making this model (and several others) available on paperpino.net.  And in honor of Earth Day, build this one out of some good stock recycled paper.

Papercraft Friday #82: McDonald’s Big America

April 16, 2010

When I saw this post on Papercraft Paradise, I had to stop and look twice.  A rolling McDonald’s??  Then I heard that McDonald’s ran a campaign this year called “Big America” that featured a McDonald’s on wheels.  Only in Japan!  I guess our commercials and ad campaigns look just as strange to them as theirs do to us.  Still it’s a quirky little model that’s detailed but not overly complicated, so why not.  You can grab links to it from Papercraft Paradise.

If you want to see the ad campaign in action, check out the YouTube videos after the jump.

Papercraft Friday #81: Build Your Own Mini Arcade

April 9, 2010

Someday when my ship comes in, I win the lottery, and I find that pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, I’ll buy a giant house to put all my crap in, with plenty of room to buy more crap.  When I do, I’ll definitely have a big arcade room with plenty of pinball and videogame machines.

Until that day, I can console myself with the next best thing: a mini papercraft arcade!  Matica.com has tiny papercraft versions of a pinball machine and an arcade videogame machine with stool. Hit their site to download the models and watch instructional videos.

I think I’ll build them, set them up in a small black painted display box with maybe a little neon and arcade ambiance, and dream of that day.
