Papercraft Friday #80: Professor Layton and the Curiously Diabolical Papercraft

April 2, 2010

Fans of the Nintendo DS Professor Layton puzzle game series might take a keen interest in this one.  While you’re waiting for developer Level-5 to bring the other games in the series to the U.S. (not to mention the feature film!), you can  make yourself a nice little Professor Layton of your own.

There isn’t actually anything really curiously diabolical about this papercraft, except that it’s Japanese and requires Pepakura Viewer to view and print.  Download the .pdo file.

Papercraft Friday #79: SSBB Mario

March 26, 2010

Paperkraft.net posted a model this week of one of the most detailed paper Mario models I’ve seen, created by Ignatius.  He’s modeled in his classic pose from Super Smash Bros. Brawl.  Definitely not for the beginner papercraft modeler, but it appears to be well worth the effort for the experienced modeler and game enthusiast.  Awesome!

Papercraft Friday #72: Spirit Tracks Link

January 22, 2010

Something draws me towards the Link and Zelda papercrafts.  I don’t know why.  But Nintendo Papercraft recently posted a model of Link from The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, playing the Spirit Flute.  I’ve recently started playing that on the Nintendo DS, and it’s pretty good.  I’m gonna have to add this model to the collection.  You can download it in A4 or Letter size at Nintendo Papercraft.

Games Played in 2009

December 31, 2009

I tend to buy more games than I play, and play more games than I finish, so I though this year I’d make a list of games played, with an * next to ones I’ve finished.  I’m sure this list will miss a lot, but here’s a go at it.

  • Age of Booty (XBLA) *
  • Animal Crossing: City Fold (Wii)
  • Batman: Arkham Asylum (PS3)
  • The Beatles: Rock Band (Xbox 360) *
  • Bejeweled Blitz (web & iPod touch)
  • Beneath a Steel Sky Remastered (iPod Touch)
  • Beyond Good And Evil (Gamecube)
  • Chrono Trigger (DS)
  • Deadly Creatures (Wii)
  • Dead Space (PS3)
  • Dragon Age: Origins (XBLA)
  • Dragon’s Lair (iPod Touch)
  • Dungeon Hunter (iPod Touch)
  • Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard (DS)
  • Fable II (Xbox 360)
  • Farmville (web)
  • Flower (PSN) *
  • Final Fantasy XII (PS2) *
  • Gears of War (Xbox 360) *
  • Gears of War 2 (Xbox 360) *
  • God of War (PS2)
  • Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (DS)
  • Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox) *
  • Halo 2 (Xbox)
  • House of the Dead: Overkill (Wii) *
  • Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings (Wii)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (DS)
  • Legends of Zork (web)
  • LEGO Rock Band (Xbox 360) *
  • Metroid Prime (Gamecube)
  • Moon (DS)
  • New Super Mario Bros Wii (Wii)
  • NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits (Wiiware)
  • Pac-Man Championship Edition (XBLA & iPod Touch)
  • Peggle (iPod Touch)
  • Resident Evil 5 (Xbox 360) *
  • Resistance 2 (PS3) *
  • Rock Band (iPod Touch)
  • The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition (XBLA & iPod Touch)
  • Shadow Complex (XBLA) *
  • Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (Wii)
  • Sims 3 (Mac)
  • Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)
  • Tales of Monkey Island Part 1 (Wiiware)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Reshelled (XBLA)
  • Toki Tori (Wiiware)
  • Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune (PS3) *
  • Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3) *
  • Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos (Mac) *
  • Wii Sports Resort (Wii)
  • World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (Mac)

Not a bad list.  I actually finished more than I expected. Sadly, there are no PSP games on that list.  Not a good year for the PSP, even outside the PSP Go fiasco.  The Playstation 3, the console I have the least amount of games for, actually had a very good showing this year.

For those that just have to know, my Game of the Year, without a shred of doubt, is Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth Playable Flash Demo

November 14, 2009

aceattorneydemo

Gamespot.com has an exclusive playable flash demo of the upcoming Nintendo DS game Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth.  The game is not due to hit U.S. shores for another 3 months or so, but you can get a quick fix with this demo.  I hope more games produce flash demos like this in the future.

Papercraft Friday #64: Life-Sized Link

October 23, 2009

_MG_2858

I saw this a few weeks back, and it’s pretty awesome.  I try to focus on papercraft that I might either put together myself or with the family, and a life-sized model could be very time-consuming and difficult, so I didn’t feature it.  Since then, some YouTube videos have been posted about the making of it, including a stop motion video of the whole thing going together.  Makes me think maybe I could tackle part of it, like the Master Sword or the shield.  Hmm….

If you’re ambitious, you can download the 197 page, 831 piece model at PaperCraft Museum.  I’ve included the stop motion video after the jump.  If you build it, send me pics!

Papercraft Friday #56: Wii Sports Resort Wuhu Island

August 28, 2009

wuhu

Have you been to Wuhu Island?  I bet millions of you have.  It’s not only the location of the new Wii Sports Resort (which has sold more than 1 million copies in its first month), but also the location of the running portion of Wii Fit, which has sold over 22 million copies to date.  Of course, the island took much more prominence the moment you jumped out of the plane and parachuted down to it in Wii Sports Resort.

Nintendo Papercraft posted a model of Wuhu Island last week from its resident designer ddi7i4d.  Stay fit!

Homemade NES Mini Arcade Cabinet

August 27, 2009

MiniNESarcade

A couple of the gaming blogs have run a story today about a custom-built NES mini arcade cabinet that user russm313 built and posted on the instructables.com website.  I don’t recall ever seeing someone build a “half” arcade cabinet like this, though of course you see them in bars and such.  What a great concept for someone like me with very limited space, or just a home bar application.

My birthday will be here before you know it.  If only I knew cranky someone who was good at building things….

You can see a video of the finished product after the jump.
