My “Games Completed” list this year is quite good. Part of that is that my total number of games played is inversely proportional to the amount of time I play World of Warcraft. Meaning I didn’t play much Warcraft this year, so I played a lot of other things. The other reason is that I really tried to put an emphasis on completing games this year. I pick up a lot of games and tend to dabble a lot, but I’m easily distracted by the next thing and leave many games hanging. This year I dabbled less and finished more. So without further ado…

Papercraft Friday #99: Link & Epona
August 20, 2010
I’ll be posting Papercraft Friday #100 next week, and have been thinking long and hard as to what it should be, since #100 is something of a milestone. The runner-up choice is this week’s model of Link and Epona from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. A model of Link seemed an appropriate candidate, given that my 3rd highest trafficked blog post and highest trafficked Papercraft Friday post is a Link model. More on that next week. But I came across a model I’d been looking for but had never found that fit well with the site and chose it for next week, so Link is my runner up.
This model of Link and Epona has always been one of my favorites, so I really don’t know why I haven’t featured it before. Ninjatoes put it out over 2 years ago, but in my opinion it’s still one of the best.
Stay tuned next week for Papercraft Friday #100!

Papercraft Friday #94: SSBB Luigi
July 9, 2010
If it’s still Friday where I’m at, it still counts as a Papercraft Friday post, right?? This one comes in just under the wire. Did you build the excellent Super Smash Bros Brawl Mario from Papercraft Friday #79, but feel he was still missing something? TouchFuzzyGetDizzy over at DeviantART, with the help of designer Ignatius, has done it again with a 3D model of Mario’s ever loyal brother Luigi. He even got a Daily Deviation for it over there! Grats! As with Mario, there are no instructions and this model is not for the beginner, but for those who successfully tackled the Mario, this SSBB Luigi model will look great beside it.

Papercraft Friday #91: Nintendo 3DS
June 18, 2010
The hit of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) this year was the announcement of Nintendo’s upcoming handheld offering: the Nintendo 3DS. While it looks very similar to the Nintendo DS, it sports an upper screen capable of displaying 3D images to the naked eye without the need for 3D glasses. Gaming skeptics who saw it firsthand were won over by how good the effect is. It also has two outward-facing cameras for taking 3D photos.
Paperkraft.net is all over it this week, releasing a paper model version of the Nintendo 3DS. It might not power on and play games, but it’s definitely 3D.
Note: Modelers should not experience any optical or physical discomfort when building this 3D model. If you do feel any eye or head aches, queasiness, or any other discomfort, you should cease building this model right away. It may be too hardcore for you.

Zark’s E3 Roundup and Best of Show
June 18, 2010
Ok, I’m saturated with E3 2010 news, and ready to throw down the final verdict. It’s a long one, so grab some popcorn and adult libation (or beverage of choice) and read on…

E3 2010 Nintendo Media Briefing Live Thoughts
June 15, 2010
Okay, here we go with Nintendo’s press conference:
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
- Lots of time showing Zelda control. Uses Wii MotionPlus.
- Some control issues. Stage issue or game issue?
- Looks fun. Lots of items to use.
- Not coming out until “next year”
Mario Sports Mix
- The Mario sports franchises have been pretty silent the last few years, so I’m not surprised.
Just Dance 2
- Dance games are the new music game genre this year.
- Doesn’t pick up full body moves like Kinect. But that might mean it’s not as hard.

Wii Game Soundtrack Sadness
May 25, 2010
Long time readers will no doubt be familiar with my love of video game music soundtracks, especially of the free variety. Joystiq posted a story today about the cancellation of Wii horror game Sadness. It was in development hell for years, rumored even to be vaporware, and finally canceled. This was confirmed last month by the game’s musical composer, Arkadiusz Reikowskiego, who released the music tracks on his blog for download. So to alleviate your sadness at the cancellation of the game, enjoy the work-in-progress Sadness soundtrack for free!

Tub ‘o Fun
May 6, 2010After my leaking battery incident last weekend, I decided it’d be best to check my other handheld games to make sure there were no batteries in the others. I snapped a picture of the above as I did it, which is my tub of old handheld LED and LCD games. I annotated the pic above (click for larger), if you’re wondering what’s what. Most are older with the exception of some re-issues. There’s an Entex Electronic Baseball (with corded pullout pitching controller), a Conic Multisport (with overlays hidden below), a Mattel Football and re-issued Mattel Classic Football, a Mattel Football 2, a re-issued Mattel Classic Baseball, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles LCD game, a Gauntlet LCD game, Doctor Who and the Daleks 1993 LCD game, a Parker Brothers Merlin, and a Super Mario Bros Widescreen Game & Watch. I’m the only owner of all except the Multisport (garage sale) and the original Football (my brother’s… he had Football and I had Football 2). Hours of fun to be had in one small tub.

Game Boy Repair
May 3, 2010
I usually play Game Boy and Game Boy Color on my Game Boy Advance. But this weekend I had my original Nintendo Game Boy out, and discovered that there were some AA batteries inside that had a 1998 expiration date on them. Needless to say, there was some corrosive penetration of the outer steel shell by some potassium hydroxide, forming feathery crystalline structure that grew and spread out from the batteries, leading to oxidation of copper traces and other components. In other words, the old batteries leaked inside the Game Boy.

Netflix for Wii Case Cover Art
April 13, 2010
Getting that shiny new disc in the mail this week for instant streaming Netflix on your Wii? I got it today and gave it a try. Works pretty well on the little console that could. Better than on the PS3 for standard def streaming and load times!
You don’t need to return the disc, so print yourself a nice Netflix Wii-style case cover from The Cover Project, grab a white DVD case (or buy empty cases from Nintendo if you are a perfectionist), and put that disc in your game library in style. If you have a PS3 disc, you can do the same for it with a Netflix PS3 case cover.
