Race 3000 is the 2nd of the new LEGO games that we got after going to the LEGO Games 2010 Summer Tour event. Race 3000 is a race car game for up to 4 players. The first car to make it all the way around the track wins. Turbos, oil slicks, shortcuts, pit stops, and a unique LEGO dice configuration each game makes it a different game each time.
As with Minotaurus, you first build the board, or in this case the race track. The rule book gives you ideas for multiple kinds of track configurations and rule additions. We played the basic game, which took about 45 minutes once the board was built, and it was back and forth to the very end. The track splits into 2 sections so you can put it in the box and not rebuild it every time. But mixing it up is half the fun! Pictures of the build and final game after the break.

Every once in awhile, an innocuous LEGO set comes along that the whole family just falls in love with. The 20015 Creator Crocodile BrickMaster exclusive is one of those for us. Everyone just loves this little guy! He even went in the display case because everyone wanted to make sure he stayed intact. I would not be surprised if we didn’t end up with the Ferocious Creatures set just so he could have a papa. Pics of the final build follow.

The first LEGO game we played of the ones we got after the LEGO Games 2010 Summer Tour event was LEGO 3841 Minotaurus. The game is essentially played in a giant hedge maze. Up to 4 players can play, and you start from a corner and try to work your way to the labyrinth to the secret temple. Other players may be able to place blocks in your path, and the minotaur might get you along the way, depending on the roll of the LEGO dice.
The box comes with all the pieces and instructions to build the board before the game begins, and a separate rule booklet that includes gameplay variations to mix it up or make it your own style. We had a lot of fun playing it, and I can tell it’s going to be a favorite around the house. BTW, the box is big enough to hold the whole assembled board, so you don’t have to rebuild it each time you want to play if you don’t want to. Shots of the build and final game after the jump.

The LEGO Games 2010 Summer Tour is rolling across the country, and stopped in our town yesterday and today. LEGO has a new set of LEGO-based board games out, which the tour is promoting. We made our way downtown to join the fun. Admission was free.

We mixed it up a little with Bionicle build. The Brickmaster exclusive 20012 Bionicle set is of the scarabax beetle Click, friend of Mata Nui on the planet of Bara Magna. Didn’t take long to make, though many of the pieces look the same. Nice articulation on the finished build. Shots of the completed set after the break.

We squeezed in a smaller build this time, but one that’s been on the stack for awhile. From the Mars Mission series, the 7695 MX-11 Astro Fighter is only 57 pieces, but there’s a decent amount of detail. The wings adjust nicely from horizontal to downward angled, and it comes with a pilot and a Martian. Pics of the build after the jump.

This week’s LEGO Night was a radio-controlled build. The 92 piece 8183 Racers Track Turbo RC is not a difficult build, and it’s one of those that has a lot of custom pieces. It takes 3 AAA batteries (for the remote) and 3 AA batteries (for the car). You can build three different cars with the set, though we just built the first one. I was surprised at how powerful the RC engine is. Pics of the build and a video of the car in action after the jump.

LEGO Night was during the day this week. This is the second Racers set we’ve actually put together, and I’ve been surprised with each that there are so many pieces. It doesn’t look like it from the final build, but there are quite a lot of small pieces and stickers. The whole thing folds up into a box with a lid. See photos of the build after the jump.
