Update: GOG.com beta begins
September 11, 2008
As I mentioned last week, there’s a pretty cool new website for old games, called GOG.com. Their beta keys just started going out today to people who signed up for the beta. Here are my thoughts on the site.
I have to say that I’m pretty impressed with the site so far. So far they have titles published by Codemasters and Interplay from 25 different developers. You can sort the catalogue by all, genre, average user rating, price, availability, publisher or developer. Each game has a nice page describing the title, and includes 12 screenshots and community reviews.
Below is a list of available and upcoming titles. The majority of titles are $5.99 (except those listed otherwise).
1nsane – $9.99
Colin McRae Rally 2005 (soon) – $9.99
Conquest of the New World
Descent + Descent 2
Descent 3 + Expansion
Die By The Sword + Expansion
Earthworm Jim 3D
Evolva
F/A-18E Super Hornet
Fallout
Fallout 2
Fallout Tactics
Freespace + Expansion
Freespace 2
Giants: Citizen Kabuto
Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising
Invictus: In The Shadow of Olympus
Jagged Alliance 2: Unfinished Business
Kingpin: Life of Crime
Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader
M.A.X + M.A.X. 2
MDK
MDK 2
Messiah
Operation Flashpoint GOTY (soon) – $9.99
Original War
Perimeter – $9.99
Redneck Rampage Collection (soon)
Sacrifice
Shattered Steel
Shogo: Mobile Armor Division
Soldiers: Heroes of World War II (soon) – $9.99
Stonekeep (soon)
ToCA Race Driver 3 (soon) -$9.99
Beta access members get a free Interplay game after they purchase one, so I bought Fallout for $5.99. They emailed me a code for the free game and I used it to get Fallout 2. Both games I got came with the game file, Adobe .pdf files of the manuals and reference cards, soundtrack mp3′s (17+ tracks each), hi-rez and Fallout series wallpaper, and avatars you can use on GOG.com or elsewhere. The extras are definately a nice touch. The site seems pretty fast and stable, and I didn’t have any problems making my purchase or getting my free game.
Every Tuesday is new old game release day, and every Thursday they will be announcing new upcoming titles.
