Dumbledore is Gay

The internet buzz reached a fevered pitch last Friday, and Harry Potter fans were apparently blindsided, by J.K. Rowling’s revelation that Hogwart’s headmaster Albus Dumbledore is gay.
From the perspective of one who has never read a single sentence in a Harry Potter book, or watched any Harry Potter movies, my official response is… so what. Apparently his sexuality was never discussed in the novels. Isn’t that how society is supposed to behave?? If homosexuals, or minority groups for that matter, have once common mantra, it’s that all they want is to not be singled out, but rather to be treated for who they are as a person, not by their sexuality or the color of their skin or whatever.
But then we are constantly barraged by stereotypes in our society. Some are just plain wrong, like how you can get AIDS by kissing a homosexual. Some lead to more division and separation in an attempt to be equal, like the Miss Black America Pageant. So here we finally have a character that lasted through all the Harry Potter novels and was not once pigeon-holed into one stereotypical category. Isn’t that how the world is supposed to be? I haven’t seen one comment or story about this revelation mention that this is how things should be. Which is sad.
