Limited Time Xbox LIVE Arcade Price Drop

Major Nelson announced a 48-hour, half price Live Arcade sale, on Small Arms, Zuma Deluxe, Gauntlet and Dig Dug.

You don’t see Xbox Live Arcade games on sale very often, do if any of those are of interest, you can buy them this coming Sunday and Monday. Personally, Small Arms doesn’t look that interesting to me, but Zuma Deluxe has a pretty good rep as a puzzle game, and the demo was pretty fun. Gauntlet… wow, tempting. I have several other versions of it, but it’s such a classic. “Warrior needs food badly.” “Wizard is about to die.” Tempting. Dig Dug too is a nice classic. *runs off to check on Microsoft Point total*

IGN calls Metroid Prime 3: Corruption “the Wii’s best game”

One of the year’s most anticipated Wii games, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption for the Nintendo Wii, comes out this week and is garnering some high praise.  IGN’s review gives it a 9.5, calling it the “Wii’s best game” and “a great, satisfying ride that you won’t soon forget.”   Other media outlets to weigh in so far are giving it pretty good marks as well:   Nintendo Power gives it a 10/10, 1Up a 9/10, and GameTrailers a 9.6/10.

Why oh why do these companies have to release great games like Bioshock and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption back to back!  So many games, so little time…

The English-to-American Dictionary

If you’re watching a good British comedy, and are confused by someone who’s “knackered” or don’t know why someone would “snog” someone else, have I got a site for you.

The English-to-American Dictionary is a great site set up by a Scot named Chris Rae who’s spent some time in America and started cataloging words that are unique or different between cultures.  There’s a category index and an alphabetical index, as well as things about date formatting, currency and the like.  It’s a great reference and fun just to poke around and read too.

Composer Garry Schyman created the orchestral masterpiece that serenades you through your journey into the heart of Rapture. Today, we are releasing the 12 tracks that create the eerie string compilation in Rapture so that you can take the world of BioShock wherever you go. We have archived these 12 mp3s into a zip file for you for easy download. Grab it and take a listen — and remember the first moment setting eyes upon the sunken city, your first battle with a Splicer, when you first battled a Big Daddy, or the time you decided to save (perhaps harvest?) a Little Sister.

Wow.  9 months to do what the Xbox 360 did in 21 months.   And the Wii has sold nearly as many consoles in America as the PS3 has worldwide.  And you still can’t walk into a store and buy one, unlike the other two.

So what if Paramount was paid to support HD DVD

So what?! 

I guess the gist is that someone (Toshiba?) is paying Paramount (aka Viacom) for exclusivity.  The implication is that HD DVD really isn’t worth supporting by itself, only by being paid off to do it.

Umm… HD DVD was developed by Toshiba and NEC, right?  Both are hardware companies and neither are in the motion picture business.  Blu-ray was developed by Sony Corporation, which has a hardware division (Sony Electronics) and also a motion picture division (Sony Pictures Entertainment and MGM).  So how much is Sony Electronics paying Sony Pictures Entertainment and MGM to only put their movies on Blu-ray (where “paying” = how much is it costing Sony Pictures to be exclusive to Blu-ray)?
